The expansion of a community-based Internet radio station has taken shape in downtown Palmerton.
Colossal Radio’s free internet radio was broadcast Monday from its new home at Off The Charts Music School LLC.
And a lot of people have noticed, as evidenced by all the passers-by who took the time to stop and watch.
This attention has not gone unnoticed by owner Layne “Doc” Roberts, who has said he welcomes the positive vibes.
âThe response today has been overwhelming,â said Roberts. âPeople stopped. “
Flanked by his cousin, Dustin Rehrig, who owns the music school at 306 Delaware Ave., Roberts felt the love.
âIt’s just amazing,â Rehrig said of all the buzz the radio station generated from the mass of spectators.
Terry Deibert and Kevin Kresge, Two of a Kind Acoustic, helped kick off the radio station’s grand opening.
âWe do everything to support music,â Deibert said. âEspecially with children; they need an outlet, some other end than the computer.
Roberts, who has been a DJ for over 30 years, kicked off the radio show in March 2019.
After spending nearly two years at 195 S. First St., Lehighton, Roberts said the radio station’s intention was to pick up where it left off by continuing to promote local small businesses.
âWe always make the same commercial projectors,â he said. âNow we can do more with the music scene. “
The radio station’s primary footprint is throughout Carbon County, as well as the Poconos and Lehigh Valley.
Roberts thanked Rehrig and everyone who played a role in the expansion.
“We brought in everyone who was on that team,” he said. “Without a team effort, nothing gets done.”
He is proud of his brand new, state-of-the-art facility and invited the public to visit it.
âIt’s pretty cool,â he said. “My new digs are just fantastic.”
Roberts’ show runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Other shows include the Al Burke Classic Rock Show from 1 pm to 5 pm Monday through Friday; The Beach Bar Piano Show live from Florida, hosted by Dave Freeman at 7 p.m. Wednesday and noon Sunday; Chuck Matthews Greatest Hits USA 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday; and Keith Hines and Jason Roeder and their guests for the Lehighton Magazine podcast at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of the month.
